Department of Defense directives and Army regulations assigns the Product Manager, Force Protection Systems (PM-FPS) the centralized management function for the research, development, and acquisition of interior physical security equipment, command and control systems, security lighting, tactical security systems, barrier systems, mass notification/ personnel alerting systems, and interior and exterior robotics.

PM-FPS also is responsible for the validation of commercial off-the-shelf products that can enhance security for Service members and organizations in addition to responsibilities for research and development, management functions include responsibility for fielding, safety evaluations, and logistics support.
